Verna J. Alford GIRARD, IL Verna J. Alford, 93, passed away Saturday, Dec.
14, 2013, at Carlinville Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 13, 1920, in
Carlinville, Ill., the daughter of Elmer Kessinger and Ima (Bown) Kessinger. She
married Robert E. Alford in Girard, Ill., on April 8, 1945; he passed away Dec.
17, 1973. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Pauline
Schwab; and brothers, Hayden and Raymond Kessinger. Verna graduated from Girard
High School, Class of 1938. She was a homemaker, and active in the First
Christian Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren, enjoying playing bridge and spending time with friends. Survivors
include her son, Joseph Alford of Girard; daughter, Mary (Harry) Fanning of
Girard; granddaughter, Jacqueline (Charles "Ed") Redmond of St. Louis, Mo.,
grandson, Robert (Janelle) Fanning of Girard; and two great granddaughters,
Eleanor and Findlay Fay Redmond. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. at the
First Christian Church in Girard. 17, 2013, at the church, Rev. Richard
Whitworth officiating. Burial will be in Girard Cemetery. Memorials may be made

Girard in charge of arrangements. Ali SPRINGFIELD, IL Rasheedah Z. Ali (Becky
Crawford), 63, passed away Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center,
surrounded by her family. Rasheedah was born July 3, 1950, in Springfield, Ill.
She was the second child of seven, and the oldest daughter, of Montez R.
McIntosh and Zeddie Lee Crawford Sr. In 1970 she married Rahman M. Ali Sr. and
to this union four children were born. Rasheedah was one of the founders of
Imani Inc. which offered services to the homeless in Springfield and Sangamon
County for over 15 years. Imani provided food, clothes, school supplies for the
kids and educational training for parents, and other young adults needing
assistance. She served as a past precinct committee woman and a member of the
Illinois Democratic delegation. She was a member of Second Timothy Baptist
Church, attending in her wheelchair until her health no longer allowed her to
go. Rasheedah was very community minded and loved youth sports, which Imani
sponsored two teams. The Imani Eagles football team and Springfield Central
basketball team both were championship teams, earning many awards and accolades.
Rasheedah was very active in her community; but, due to her failing health, was
unable to attend games regularly. Yet, she went as often as she could to see
"her kids" play (as she referred to the players). Everyone who met her felt like
she was their friend, as was evidenced by the many individuals who came to visit
her during her time of hospitalization. She joked with friends, old and new, and
provided a smile to those she met who will remember her smile, making all she
met feel like they were a well loved family member. She was preceded Fake Sunglasses in death by both parents; one son, Robert L.
She leaves to cherish her life, her husband, Rahman Sr.; one son, Rahman M.
(Patty) Ali II; two daughters, Jamillah N. (Myron) Braiser of Springfield, Ill.,
and Sakinah N. (Ralph) Granderson of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Loujean (Otis)

Kors Outlet Scott and Delores Crawford of Springfield, Ill.; one aunt, Nancy
McIntosh of Houston, Miss.; three grandsons whom she raised, Jamal and Joseph A.
Perry IV of Springfield, Ill., and Clarence L. Jones of Joliet, Ill.; five great
grandchildren; thirteen nieces and nephews; twenty great and eight great
greatgrand; as well as a host of cousins and friends. noon, Friday, Dec. 13,
2013, with the funeral service beginning at noon, all at Second Timothy Baptist
Church, 1122 E. Pine St., Springfield, IL 62703. Interment is private. Allspach
MT. PULASKI, IL Shirley E. 13, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Shirley was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Edinburg, Ill., to Russell and Margaret Porter
Cary. She worked as a maternity nurse at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in
Lincoln and retired as a registered nurse from Vonderlieth Living Center in Mt.
Pulaski. She was a member of the Lake Fork Christian Church and the Eastern
Star. She married Donald Allspach on March 10, 1957, in Mt. Auburn, Ill. He
survives her. Also surviving are three children: Debra (Chris) Neaville of Mt.
Pulaski, Ill., Janet Toohey of Fancy Prairie, Ill., and Gary (Kella) Allspach of
Mt. Pulaski, Ill; two brothers, Paul Cary of Chicago and Gail (Betty) Cary of
Mt. Auburn, Ill.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents. 17, 2013, at the Mt. Pulaski Christian Church,

Center. A burial at Steenbergen Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may

Anton SPRINGFIELD, IL Tom E. Anton, 56, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, at
his home. He was born Feb. 21, 1957, in Worthington, Minn., to Robert E. and
Goldie S. (Versluis) Anton. Tom Michael Kors
Outlet was employed with Boeing in Everett, Wash., for 15 years and Labinal
for seven years. He enjoyed sports, fishing and music. He was an avid NASCAR
fan. He is survived by his daughter, Allison (Scott) Bybee of Springfield; son,
Bryan Anton of Seattle, Wash.; grandson, Easton Bybee; brothers, Bob Anton, Jr.,
of Lake Park, Iowa, and Jim Anton of Bellevue, Iowa; and niece and nephew. He
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mark. Per Tom's wishes, no
services will be held. Vancil Murphy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
11, 2013, in Braselton. Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alvin
Bales. Lola and Alvin lived in Mansfield, Ohio, where they raised six children.
Lola's life was devoted to loving and caring for many people, first as a
registered nurse, then as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her
children, Jay (Natalie) of Springfield, Robin, Melody, Lark (Regina), Jules
(Denise), and Augie (Tonia). Lola will be sorely missed by all members of her
family. Services will be held at a later date. Contributions can be made to
United Cerebral Palsy, 101 N. Ball GIRARD, IL Karl R. Ball, 81, passed away
Friday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2013, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
Surviving are his wife, Jean M. Ball of Girard; daughter, Karla Ball of Girard;
five sons: Kim (Connie) Ball of Virden, Kenneth (Patricia) Ball of Show Low,
Ariz., Kevin Ball of Los Angeles, Calif., William A. Ball of Luling, Texas, and
Keith (Ildiko) Ball of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Also surviving are one sister, Alys
Schlight of Mission, Kan., eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren;
several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Karl also leaves behind his loyal
companion, Bandit, his dog. Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. at Davis Anderson
Funeral Home in Girard. Masonic rights will follow the visitation . Funeral
services will be Wednesday, Dec. at the Girard United Methodist Church, Rev.
Mary Alice Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery.

Church or Girard Food Pantry. Bedolli SPRINGFIELD, IL Connie L. Bedolli died Wholesale Fake Sunglasses Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013. She was the
daughter of William B. and Erma M. Klingbeil Ball. Connie worked for Springfield
Electric for 27 years as an executive assistant. She loved to travel. She was
preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Daniel and Stephen Ball.
Connie is survived by one son, Charles B. Bedolli of Springfield; two daughters,
Elaine S. (husband, Mike) Brida and Leanne Schleyhahn, all of Springfield; four
grandchildren: Bob and Joe Schleyhahn, Natalia Soloman, and Rudy Brida; four
great grandchildren: Rylee Schleyhahn, Antonino Solomon, Leonardo Solomon, and
Ella Louise Schleyhahn; three sisters: Linda (husband, Jerry) Palmer of
Springfield, Cynthia (husband, Irvin) Spiegel of Sarasota, Fla., and Kay Ann
Fluker of Springfield; and a sister in law, Doris Ball. Private family services

Joyce A. Birk, 78, passed away Monday morning, Dec. 16, 2013, at Memorial
Medical Center in Springfield, Ill. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec.
Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery in Carlinville, Ill. Surviving are her
daughter, Joy (Coy) Robinson of Carlinville, Ill.; sons, Ron Birk of
Carlinville, Ill., and Bill (Lori) Birk of Girard, Ill.; sister, Betty Megginson
of Waverly, Ill.; sister, Bernice Stewart of Waverly, Ill.; and several nieces
and nephews. Memorials may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue Squad or Prairie
Land Ambulance. Davis Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. on
Dec. 13, 2013, at BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. She is survived by her
parents, Stuart and Jaclyn Blade; her brother, Brody; her sister, Olivia, of
Bloomington, Ill.; her maternal grandparents, Don and Mary Wohlers, Springfield,
and her paternal grandparents, Clark and Luanne Blade, all of Rochester, Ill.;
her great grandfather, Al Giacomini of Springfield, Ill.; several aunts, uncles,
and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Joseph Requarth.
Though she lived only seven hours, she taught all of her family and friends the
meaning of love, faith, and hope. Hope's family takes great joy knowing she is
in Heaven chasing butterflies. A memorial service will be held at Eastview
Christian Church in Normal on Sunday, Dec. Memorials can be made to the
Expansion Ministry at Eastview Christian Church. Borgerson MT. PULASKI, IL
Margaret D. Borgerson, 76, died Dec. 14, 2013, at Vonderlieth Living Center.
Margaret was born Feb. 12, 1937. She married Dr. James Borgerson on May 24, 1958
in Mt. Pulaski; he preceded her in death on July 12, 2010. Surviving are three
daughters: Angela ReVeal, Lynne (Tony) Borgerson Morefield, and Dr. Lara
Borgerson; three grandchildren; and one sister, Mariann (Charles) Younger of
Findlay, Ohio. 19, 2013, at Fricke Calvert Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.
Burial at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery will follow the service. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Pre School, Zion Lutheran Church,
Vonderlieth Living Center, or Mt. Pulaski Courthouse Foundation.
